About The Ghost Goal

The Ghost Goal is a football history site about the stories everyone remembers and the mechanisms people usually skip.

Lawrie writes about tactical revolutions, transfer sagas, club collapses, boardroom decisions, and the myths that harden around famous matches. The aim is not to flatten football into spreadsheets. It is to show how the romance worked: who had leverage, which rule mattered, what the club thought it was buying, and why the popular version survived.

Football means global football here: pitch, kit, nil, supporters, managers, clubs. When a claim is contested, we say so. When a fee is disputed, we call it reported. When the legend survives, it survives after the paperwork has had its say.
